What started as a Pursuit of happiness is expanding into the pursuit of Joy. There are few things that can move you in your life and this book Joyful did more than that.
I love the serendipity of finding a book that touches our heart and soul - priceless.
It brought back memories all the way from creative projects from childhood to the cherry blossoms of today in Raleigh, North Carolina to the Coco experience at an event in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There is something magical, something that you feel within that sparks joy. Just thinking about that moment in time makes you smile.
It's a beautiful space - this world that we live in. There is so much that we can do and there is so much for us to cherish.
Spark Joy Everyday
In my pursuit of joy, I'm writing down the things and places and activities that lift me up when I feel down.
Green ways, parks and gardens
Water - the ocean, beach and waves
Art museums, local boutique shops
A stroll around the neighborhood to discover the bloom of flowers, admire the historic or modern architecture or visit restaurants
To welcome spring with the cherry blossoms, and to see a flower that I've never seen before and capture the moment in time.
To share the joys of what I am lucky to see with the world - photos on unsplash and curated travel and foodie videos on YouTube.
Enjoy the delight of taste buds awakening with a new cuisine, a new dish, or create a signature recipe.
Listening to EDM, Pop or Bollywood music to get my day started
Having a lovely conversation with family, true friends, mentees, leaders and folks around the world
This is why everyday is worth living. There is so much delight and joy in and around us. That sometimes we get too busy to notice. So, I encourage each of you to pause, to breathe, to take this moment in time for what its worth and not let the time go by.
In the book Joyful, I loved all the stories from the big balloon to surprises, magic and fairy tales to the carnivals that bring people and communities together. The oneness of the universe. Its a blessing to be alive and soak in all of the awesomeness.
And that's probably why I enjoy that sense of togetherness with a group of people where you belong and feel that you are right where you are supposed to be.
And when I think about places - I would love to visit the Aurora Borealis (aka northern lights) one day to experience the sheer joy of the burst of colors in the sky, the melody, and rhythm of the hues. Blending in to create a new abstract art, that will be a moment of awe.
I still remember vividly, the conversation I had with my doctor in San Francisco when he was amazed that within a week I was feeling so much better and my anxiety had reduced. And the only thing I had changed was walk for miles in San Francisco to the fisherman's wharf and Ocean Beach - captured photos of flowers that I could see.
And that was good enough to lift me up in ways I cannot imagine.
Sometimes we induce stress that our body and mind are not meant to handle and we don't realize it. It's important to take the time to experience, what your body is telling you and pay close attention. It's always there to protect you - your mind and soul.
What are your moments of joy?
What surprised you today, this week or month?
Dive into that spark and light up the joy around you in your family, your team, and your community. Cheers!
